Services

How we help

We help new immigrants and low-income families with immigration matters, in person at our office. Our services are free or low-cost.

Fee waiver assistance

Government filing fees should not stop you from protecting your rights. If you have a low income, we can help you ask USCIS or the immigration court to waive the fee.

  • Checking whether your form can be filed with a fee waiver, and whether you may qualify
  • Preparing USCIS fee waiver requests (Form I-912), based on a means-tested benefit, low household income or financial hardship
  • Preparing fee waiver requests for appeals and motions before the immigration court or the Board of Immigration Appeals (Form EOIR-26A)
  • Gathering proof of your income or public benefits

Case status checks

Cases with USCIS and the immigration court can take a long time, and updates are easy to miss. Our staff check your case by hand and explain what they find.

  • Checking your case status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • Checking your case information with the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), the immigration court system, including hearing dates
  • Explaining any change in plain language

How case status checks work

Understanding notices and letters

Official letters are written in English and full of legal terms. You do not have to read them alone.

  • Going through notices from USCIS or the immigration court with you
  • Explaining them in plain English, Spanish or Chinese
  • Helping you understand what to do next

Language access

Language should never stand between you and your rights.

  • Service in English, Spanish and Chinese
  • Plain-language explanations of legal processes
  • Patient support for clients with limited formal education
